Mythbusting Ancient Rome: the emperor Nero

Abstract: In this article, Malik and Davenport scrutinise the major allegations which have brought the Emperor Nero infamy: his supposed setting alight of the city of Rome in 64AD and his alleged incestuous affair with his own mother. They show that these accusations were rooted in rumours created in antiquity, often invented by rivals for politically expedient reasons.
