Abstract: Kamil explores bleeding trees as an important motif in ancient literature both in the West and the East, suggesting that ‘transcultural anxiety around the wellbeing of trees’ has racked sensitive observers in societies which have drawn upon natural resources, often to the detriment of the environment.
