Ancient Technology

Abstract: Technology was an integral part of ancient life. The old view that there was little technological development in antiquity was based on a simple notion of technology and an inadequate knowledge of the relevant material. Social, economic, political, and military conditions formed the context in which technologies existed, and they varied over time and space. It is thus simplistic to argue, for example, that technology stagnated or plateaued in the late Roman period.
