Abstract: Mayor argues that Plato’s Laws imagine an idealised social model, seen as extant amongst the Scythians and the much-renowned Amazons, in which women made equal contribution to the military security of the state, in the belief that a state which failed to do this was handicapping itself by infantilising one half of the population.
